Who am I?

I am the parent of two sons.
My oldest son is 28 years old and grew up with ADHD.
He was on just about every medication (at the time) and combinations that there was.
Nothing seemed to work.
Now he lives on his own and in spite of himself is surviving.
Cody if you read this....Call your mother, or at least email me!

My youngest son is 19 years old and has had many behavior problems.

They both attended an Alternative School.

Don't get me wrong...I love my guys more than life itself.

One very important thing I have learned at this point is no matter what they do or how old they are .. you always love them and worry about them.
I also have faith that as they grow older they will learn the right way to approach situations that are thrust upon us as adults.

Why did I create this page?

I found it very interesting and informative as I was reading some of the articles that I have included. It is also not quite so lonely in the world, when you discover there are many other parents out there just like you. I also am having a great time with this web page!

Where do I look for articles?

I normally find the articles at Prevention of Juvenille Deliquency and Juvenille Justice sites and since I am from Texas...Texas Youth Commission, sometimes I use doctors' articles on different behavior disorders and on occasion magazine articles. The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry site is a recent interest of mine. Recently I found another one called Help your community.org.

What methods have I tried?

Well...I have tried eliminating sugar, foods with artificial colors and flavorings, caffeine, all-natural snacks, vitamins, councelling, behavior modifications, grounding, psychiatrists, medications and placement for my oldest, and now lots of parenting support groups.
These groups have helped me deal with these problems immensely.

I would recommend as many as you can get under your belt.
You can never have too much support when dealing with Parenting Problem Teens. My hardest lesson that I am still struggling with is to let them make their own mistakes and let them deal with it themselves. Everytime I make updates to this page I come away with tears in my eyes, if they only knew...

What else do I do for fun?

I love to do outdoor things that the family can do together.
I love to camp, go boating, fishing, scuba diving and last but not by any means least(for me)...work on my computer.
We love animals and have 2 cats and 1 turtle. We took on some sad loses.

I hope you will find my webpage informative and enjoyable as I did creating them.

Please don't forget before you leave to sign my guestbook.

I need your input about articles you liked and those you didn't for whatever reason.
That way I can keep articles online that can help you as a parent.

Which is my goal.

Thanks for visiting with me
